Kid's Cafe of Worcester is a program designed to insure that children do not go hungry by providing nourishing evening meals to inner-city, at-risk children in a safe, accessible environment. The program, which opened on December 7, 1998, feeds approximately 100-150 hungry children a nutritionally sound evening meal while they participate in activities such as tutoring and recreational programs.

The Goals for the Kid's Cafe:

  • To help alleviate childhood hunger in Worcester by providing a hot, nutritionally adequate evening meal to hungry children;
  • To educate children about nutrition and healthy eating habits;
  • To provide children with a fun, caring atmosphere where they feel like they belong and have the opportunity to grow;
  • To be a rewarding experience for volunteers, corporations and people who have the opportunity to participate and help our hungry children;
  • To motivate and empower the community to respond to the problem of childhood hunger.
Kid's Cafe of Worcester is sponsored by The Worcester County Food Bank, the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester, the Bancroft School of Massage Therapy and Tank Enterprises, Inc.These four organizations established the Worcester Kid's Cafe program, committing to provide all staff, food, supplies needed for meal preparation and the volunteer network. But please be aware, corporate and community support is vital to help maintain and expand the program. We hope to expand Kid's Cafe to all areas of the city that have children in need.

Kid's Cafe of Worcester is located at the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester at 65 Tainter Street, Worcester, MA 01610. For additional information, to volunteer, or to make a donation, please contact Steve Tankanow at the Kids Cafe, (508) 792-5409. Ed Murphy, CEO of WeRentCentralMass, a Worcester-based listing and rental company, said he has certainly seen those trends here. Murphy said that a three-bedroom apartment in Worcester was renting for around $800 per month three years ago. That rent has now risen to around $1,100. CLICK TO READ FULL STORY

For more than 100 years, Widoff's Bakery on Water Street was the place to go to get your bulkies on Sunday morning. In the not-too-distant future, it could serve as a place to pick up your medical marijuana.

In Worcester, this is a unique situation that probably only affects a few other cities across the nation. It wouldn't hold true in Boston, said CEO of Worcester Apartment Rental Agency, Ed Murphy. In Boston if you were going to purchase an equal property that you were renting, you would need $40,000 more to put down.
